British company Rotron Aerospace has conducted tests of the SkyLance attack drone, a new long-range platform developed for strike missions in modern combat scenarios.

According to the website Defence Blog, the SkyLance, which emerges in the context of Rotron’s acquisition by the American technology company Ondas Inc., was designed to operate in deep-strike missions against strategic targets, combining high speed, long range and autonomous flight capability.

Classified as a one-way attack drone, it uses a UK-produced propulsion system and a modular architecture, allowing it to be adapted for different types of missions and payloads. The company says the system was developed with a focus on high-intensity military operations and environments contested by electronic warfare systems.

According to Rotron, the project aims to offer a lower-cost alternative for missions traditionally carried out by cruise missiles or crewed aircraft, which are more expensive and more difficult to deploy in modern combat scenarios.

“The successful demonstration of SkyLance validates our ability to deliver long-range, cost-effective capability for modern operational environments,” said Alex Head, CEO of Rotron.

“We are focused on providing defence forces with scalable systems that can be deployed in volume and, through our partnership with Ondas, we are accelerating development, production and delivery to meet growing demand in the UK and allied markets.”
